The Quest (2019) was a movement workshop program led by professional artists to develop a new performance work. Working with a team of teaching artists, led by Sandi Woo, we undertook the development of community performance work in two stages.

The first stage was weekly workshops with three community groups: Access Arts, Micah Projects, and a group of independent emerging multicultural artists. In this workshop phase we learned about each other, explored ideas and movement, and generated improvisational frameworks and choreography.

The second stage of the project was a four day intensive that brought the three community groups together. Here we shared our work to date and explored the themes further as one group. This culminated in a work-in-progress showing for the project’s supporters, family and friends.

The transformation of the group during the intensive was quite remarkable. Many entered as strangers to each other and, through the process, became trusting and supportive collaborators.

The Quest was funded by Arts Queensland, The Australia Council for the Arts and Ausdance Queensland, and generously supported by the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Access Arts, Queensland Theatre Company and Phluxus2 Dance Collective.
