Extremely thoughtful and respectful of age.

Ballet for Seniors Teacher Training participant, 2021

In 2020 and 2021, I led the development and pilot delivery of Queensland Ballet’s Ballet for Seniors Teacher Training Program. This work focused on upskilling ballet teachers to work with active older adults and addressed:

  • cognitive and physical aspects of primary ageing,
  • motivations to attend ballet classes,
  • safe and effective pedagogy for active older adults,
  • teacher experiences of working with active older adults.

It was a nurturing learning experience.

The training and accompanying resources were informed by findings from Ballet Moves for Adult Creative Health, my research project with Queensland Ballet and Queensland University of Technology; professional and academic literature on safe dance practice and dance pedagogy for older adults; and QB Teaching Artists’ practices (with special mention to my co-trainers Melissa Tattam and Tamara Zurvas).
